"Fifth Texas"
During
my connection with the National Civil War Association I was able to photograph
many subjects for my civil war drawings. This is one drawing that, I think,
depicts the mood and attitude of, if not the entire war, then at least the
South. I tried to show strength, character, tenacity with just the look on the
soldiers face. From what I understand the 5th Texas, under Gen. Hooker (yes
that's where the term "hooker" came from. The General would supply his
men with "ladies of the night") was one of the roughest, toughest
group of men in the War Between The States.
